Las Farolas The Fish World

LAS FAROLAS -THE FISH WORLD

This is a very dismal view of the future. But this is the reality that we face everyday. Ballooning human population, the indiscriminate destruction of natural resources, our daily activities – all invariably contribute to the eventual demise of the very planet we live in.

This crisis poses as a great challenge to us. But it has become a great motivator to rally organizations and governments to heed the call to save our planet. The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) of the Republic of the Philippines drafted and enacted policies that encourage the preservation of endangered species and their deteriorating habitat by employing ecologically-sound development practices.

Las Farolas, a collaboration between HGB Moment Philippines, Inc. and Ortigas and Company assumes the responsibility of managing precious and irreplaceable freshwater resources by serving as an appropriate venue for exhibition, conservation and preservation, education, research and tourism purposes.

As a venue for exhibition, Las Farolas stands in as a tour destination where the public can experience and explore the rich freshwater biodiversity. It has a carefully laid-out plan in creating an experiential adventure that will leave pleasant memories.

Rainforest Park

RAINFOREST PARK, PASIG
This Central Park is an eight-hectare land located at barangay Maybunga used for sports, leisure and educational activities. It includes a water park equipped with cabanas, cottages, kiosks and other resort facilities. In addition to this, there are camping grounds, sports oval, fitness gymnasium, multipurpose center and a forest reserve.

Recently facilities such as a butterfly pavilion, mini zoo, aviary, senior citizen's park, playground and an amphitheater were constructed at the rainforest park.

Less than 6 kilometers away from Makati and Ortigas, there is a place called Pasig City’s Rainforest Park. The park technically has a water park theme but with a mini zoo inside.

We went for a jog at Pasig Rainforest Park, just a kilometer away from our house. After the quick jog under the shade of trees (a lot of trees!), we bought tickets to try their other attractions.

For Pasig City residents, each ticket was just PhP 5 each. This was five times more expensive compared to last year when everything was for free.

Bahay na Tisa

BAHAY NA TISA

This is the oldest bahay na bato in existence in Pasig. It was built by Don Cecilio Tech y Cabrera in the early 1850s. It has been home to seven generations of the Tech family and has been witness to significant historical events in Pasig and in the country. The direct descendants of Don Cecilio are still in residence.

During Martial Law, it was called Freedom House because both factions of the political spectrum can use the house as a venue for their meetings. It was also at one time the unofficial San Jose Barangay Headquarters at one time. Art exhibits were also held here. On the other hand, the Bahay na Tisa is also home to the Santo Nino de Pasion. More so, every Sunday after Easter, the sick people of the town gathered inside the house to receive the Holy Communion and the benediction of the Parish Priest (Viatico Publico).

The Bahay na Tisa has huge blocks of adobe for the ground floor walls which served to carry the load of the hardwood floorings of the second floor. The roof was originally tisa but was destroyed during World War II and was replaced with corrugated asbestos roof. The windows were made of capiz shells. Due to its antiquity and unique character as a bahay na bato in the urban setting, the Bahay na Tisa has been a favorite venue for many movies and TV serial – one of the most notable being the Centennial Offering on the National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.

This is the oldest house in Pasig located in barangay San Jose built by Don Cecilio Tech y Cabrera in the early 1850s. The direct descendants of Don Cecilio are still in residence.

Every year, on the Sunday after Easter (Domingo in Albis) the sick people of the town gather inside the spacious house to receive the Holy Communion and the benediction of the Parish Priest.
