The fifth-longest cave system in the Philippines is no wonder the first on the list of the best attractions in Nueva Vizcaya. This 4.2-kilometer long cave in Barangay Capisaan, Kasibu exhibits rare calcite formations, pristine stalactite and stalagmite formations, and a subterranean river which doubles as a passageway to its best part. This spelunking paradise also called as Lion-Alayan Cave, its main entry and exit points.

Located 700-900 meters above sea level in Brgy. Capisaan in the citrus-filled Malabing Valley in Kasibu, Nueva Vizcaya, the 4.2-kilometer long Capisaan Cave is considered as the fifth longest cave system in the Philippines. It is also known as the Lion-Alayan Cave because its two main entry and exit points, from end to end, are the Lion and Alayan Caves.

Considering its immense number of formations, the cave is still considered pristine and intact. An end-to-end trek takes about four hours, but one hardly notices as lighting up the otherwise pitch-black interior reveals differently-sized stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones and draperies that challenge the imagination with their varying shapes. One can spot a Madonna-and-child figure; a parrot; a Nativity scene or chess pieces in disarray.

The flight is about 3O minutes g0ing t0 Maconacon, Isabela. Then, take passenger jeepneys or trikes plying to Divilacan for ab0ut 20 minutes.

Another option is through boat. Fr0m the south, take vehicles b0und to Tuguegarao City. From Tuguegarao City, take public utility van route to San Vicente, Santa Ana, Cagayan. It takes more than 3 hours and then take boats to Maconacon, or Divilacan for about 1O hours.

With a reasonable entrance fee, you still need to pay other fees if you want to avail of the several adventure packages. Refreshments are available within the park.

As there is no public transportation in the area, you need to rent a vehicle or hitch a ride with a motorcycle waiting along the highway and traverse through the rough and winding road.

Come early in the morning or at least before lunch to get the best of your time. It is quite cheaper to visit with a big group, but even if you go alone and pay the price for the whole trail, the experience is all worth it. More so, the package includes lunch of rice and chicken adobo, which you can surely finish in no time! Now, that is something to look forward to.

The Light Houses

Batanes has three lighthouses. The construction of three lighthouses around Batanes was a project of then Congressman Florencio Abad in the early 2000′s. These parolas were built not only to guide seafarers across the treacherous waters of the Pacific Ocean and West Philippine Sea (South China Sea), but also as tourist attractions. All three lighthouses are open to visitors anytime, accentuating the vista with their magnificent and imposing presence.

The original lighthouses in Mahatao were two stone structures situated several meters apart: once their two points of light converged, sailors knew they were at the right spot for entering the town port. This newer, prettier lighthouse is perched on top of the Mahatao mountains and commands views of sprawling hills and sparkling seas.

Mahayaw Arch

MAHAYAW ARCH

 In Sabtang, there is a naturally made stone arch that is so heavily photographed, it became an icon and a symbol of the island. Sometimes called as “Nakabuang” or “Mahayaw” or just simply “Ahaw“, this arch was carved by geologic forces together with the sea. The arch also serves as a cooling shade under the scorching sun. Tourists stop by to this beach to have lunch.
